For many student athletes, once they have completed their four years of eligibity and their time at NEC, they can comeback as a fan on the sideline, but lose the feeling of being immersed in the program. Spending the last four years as the last line of defense in net for the Pilgrims Men’s Lacrosse team, William Platt knows a thing or two, or four, about athletics here at NEC.
As a four-year starter, Platt was a part of the teams’ accomplishment of winning four straight conference championships. When the opportunity arrived to continue being a part of the athletics program, Platt had to give it a shot.
“I had heard about the job and was told that I should try to apply for the position. So, I sent in my resume and cover letter right at the end of the school year,” said Platt, “I waited a couple of weeks before I heard back about coming in for an interview.”
After he was offered the job by then interim and now Athletic Director Dave DeCew, the decision to stay at NEC was easy for Platt. “I have learned to love Henniker, the surrounding area, and the people. I was lucky enough to have been given this opportunity to stay in Henniker at New England College and become the Assistant Athletic Director and propel me on my career path,” said Platt.
Not many student-athletes have the chance to see first-hand what it takes behind the scenes to run an athletic program, and Platt is aware of just that, “so far being on this side of the desk has been eye opening,” he said, “it really makes me appreciate the people who have done this job before me.” Platt has realized that while the student-athletes are large part of the reason why teams succeed, there is a lot of administrative work that accompanies them.
Platt is determined to help NEC Athletics continue their recent success and become an all-around powerhouse.
“I am just excited for the athletes to be here and see them compete and win championships like I have done in the past,” said Platt, “I can’t wait to support every team and cheer them on down the road to victory.”
