Women’s Basketball:
As the season kicks off for our lady Grim’s basketball team, there is a lot of anticipation in the air from the successes of last season. Last year, the team had an outstanding record of 19-8 and made it all the way to the conference semifinal game against Husson College. This year’s team is coming into the season with a tremendous amount of senior leadership and experience. Senior guard Marjani Lillard and senior forward Breana Ramirez plan to build off of their 2015-16 seasons that landed both of them with North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Second Team All-Conference honors for their performances. With Coach Erica Ledy is heading into her 16th season of coaching women’s basketball; all the pieces seem to be in place for a very successful season.
Men’s Basketball:
Men’s Basketball heads into the 2016-17 season with a new face on the sideline. Malcolm Wynn joined the program as the new assistant men’s basketball coach. Before joining the Pilgrim’s coaching staff, Coach Wynn served as the head coach for 12 years at Curry College. During his years at Curry College, Coach Wynn created an impressive résumé that contains multiple Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships and many trips to the NCAA National tournament.
Alongside sixteen year Head coach Charlie Mason, this dynamic duo plans to turn a young returning team into a conference powerhouse. This season will begin without NEC basketball 1000 point club member, NAC First Team All-Conference player, and team Captain Dezron Wilson for the first time in four years. Although losing him was a great loss to the team, this now creates an opportunity for the underclassmen to step up and fill his roll. Without question, the Pilgrim Men’s Basketball team has everything they need this season to turn some head in their conference.
Women’s ice hockey:
Pilgrims Women’s hockey takes the ice this season hoping to improve off of last season’s successes. Four year coach Kristi Kehoe and assistant coach Jackie Perez, the two plan on turning the Lady Grims into a conference contender.
Senior captains Demi Latham, Tori Polehonka, and Mackenzie Meegan hope to use their knowledge and leadership to lead the way for freshmen recruits adapting to the higher level of play that comes with playing college hockey. Along with the senior leadership, another key component to women’s hockey’s success is the backbone of the team, sophomore goalie Lindsey Powers. Last season, Powers accumulated a save percentage of .934 and stole many wins for her team last season. The Grims take the ice for their home opener October 28th at 7pm.
