Marissa Coidakis is a senior student pursuing a dual degree in Communications and Business Marketing. She is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society as well as the Alpha Chi Honor Society and falls in the top 10% of her class. She has been involved with the school paper since she took Intro to Journalism: Web Writing with Professor William Homestead during her sophomore year. During the course, she wrote two articles that were quickly uploaded to the website and published in the Spring 2016 print edition.
After numerous recommendations from Professor Homestead to join The NewEnglander staff, she signed up for the course in the Fall of 2017. Throughout her first semester she began writing her own opinion column entitled, Ris Reacts, as well as venturing into writing articles in the news section. Her article, Growing Pains, a news piece written last fall about NEC’s largest first year class, was the front-page article for the Fall 2017 edition. During her Spring semester she moved up from a staff member to Assistant Editor where she began assisting the former Editor-in-Chief, Desiree Lapointe, with editing, designing, and publishing peer’s articles as well as producing her own work.
This Fall she was promoted from Assistant Editor to Editor-in-Chief where she continues editing and publishing content, while also managing the newspaper’s social media accounts and planning and designing the semester’s print edition. Most recently she has worked with her staff to plan a panel event for students and community members to discuss the relationship between NEC students and the Henniker Police Department and Campus Safety.
When she is not working on the paper, she spends her time at TD Bank where she works as a part time teller or over at Pat’s Peak where she enjoys snowboarding. Marissa lives locally in Weare, NH and plans to graduate with her Bachelor’s in Communication Studies and Bachelor’s in Business Marketing in the Spring of 2019.
