On April 8, 2024, the SHE department at New England College held a solar eclipse viewing. This marked the first total eclipse since 2017. Before that, the last total solar eclipse visible in the U.S. was in 1979.
A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun, according to NASA.
Parts of northern New Hampshire experienced the total eclipse, in Henniker 96.3% of the sun was covered.
The NEC community gathered on the Simon lawn to witness this historic event.
