A fashion club has formed at New England College. “Elevate” is a new club founded by Kayla Doan and Lauren Kayondo.
“Lauren and I are both passionate about fashion, it’s how we first bonded,” Doan said. “We wanted to meet and create a fun group of people who could teach us about their style.”
The club has held two meetings and the group is growing quickly, Doan said.
“We actually have accumulated over 40 members even though we just started this semester,” she said.
Anyone is welcome to join fashion club.
“There are not any requirements to join. We welcome all people and all styles. Jessie Parker is our male representative,” Doan said.
“Our goals are to hold weekly meetings for our group. We want to be there to support all our members. If one of our members wants to go to an on-campus event but needs somebody to go with them, they already have a whole group to go with them.”
The group is planning events for the semester, including trips, a fashion show, and a clothing drive.
“We would like to take shuttles to go thrifting together,” Doan said.
Sanaai Watson, a member of fashion club said she joined because it aligned with her interests.
“I like to express myself and fashion is an extension of that self-expression,” Watson said.
“I felt drawn towards Elevate because I hoped for more empowerment and connection towards the people around me within fashion. I think elevate is doing just that,” said Suzette Pujols, a member.
Meetings are held on Monday in The Lounge, but that may be subject to change.
