Weather causes early season problems for NEC baseball

Late season snowfall has caused multiple cancellations and postponements for NEC’s baseball team.

Navigating changing weather conditions is part of playing a spring sport in New England, according to Johnny Cannavo, an infielder on NEC’s baseball team.

“I have been here about three years and every year we’ve had has been really tough with the weather. From cancellations to trying to play outside with snow on some turf fields it’s always tough,” Cannavo said.

Two games were cancelled before spring break and the team was forced to play Emerson at a neutral site on March 2 in Boston because of field conditions.

“This year has been really bad we were originally supposed to play three games before we headed off for our spring break trip and we only ended up playing one in some really cold weather. Hopefully when we get back from Myrtle (Beach) most of the snow can melt so we can get out there and play in New England,” Cannavo said.

The baseball team is scheduled to host Colby-Sawyer College in their home opener on April 5, 2023.
