The New England College women’s lacrosse team is starting the season under new leadership and hoping that a focus on success will bring home a championship.

Junior Jaqueline Nee said the team is learning a new dynamic and building a “championship mentality” under Coach Samantha Aucoin and Graduate Assistant Molly Morrow.

“Creating a good atmosphere is what I’m looking forward to,” Nee said.

Aucoin is new to the role, but familiar with NEC. She is a native of Henniker and graduated from NEC in 2012.

Nee said the team is already looking ahead to next season, when NEC leaves the NECC conference for the GNAC conference.

“I need to work more on the leadership part and be a contributing factor for the younger girls and help lead and then push forward into building a stronger program for next season,” she said.

One tradition that will remain is a “secret sister” gift exchange between teammates.

“We buy each other silly little gifts and we get to exchange those before the game and usually just sing songs in the locker room and get ready together,” she said.

The team took their first loss at home to Norwich University Friday evening. They host Lasell University at 7:00 p.m. Monday.
