New England College athletics has recently announced the November Athletes of the Month. These individuals have displayed unique qualities in dedication, growth, and skill.
Cross Country runner, Keegan Finley, was named Female athlete of the month after placing 3rd overall in the NECC Championship race.
“I think it is cool. It definitely recognizes the work that you put in. Not many women are named through weekly awards. I had a lot of improvement from last year, and it has really paid off. I was not expecting this recognition, so it was very exciting,” said Finley. With one season left, Finley hopes to see even more improvement.
Men’s Soccer player Hayden Walker was named Male Athlete of the month. The Sophomore had a great season as he started six games and only allowed four goals. Walker broke the record for shutouts in a season with seven.
“I was kind of shocked, to be honest, I try not to look at the stats as a show of my performance, but after hearing about it through some friends about the post online I went and had a look at my October performance. Definitely fulfilling to see all of my hard work on the pitch pay off and I felt honored by the recognition, but I always attribute a lot of my success as a goalkeeper to my back four. I keep ’em in line as best with directions and the location of the opposing team’s attacking players, but my voice can only do so much; the rest of it comes from them. Definitely wouldn’t have done as well as we did as a squad without those boys,” said Walker.
These athletes have truly shown hard work and dedication this season as each received the All-Conference Honors award. With both athletes having more time in their prospective sports, they will continue to practice and represent New England College well.
