On November 8, 2022, New Hampshire voters swarmed the polls around the Granite State.
Republican Chris Sununu has won, with 308,842 votes. He beat the democratic opponent, Tom Sherman by 84,997 votes.
Sununu is the first republican Governor in New Hampshire to be re-elected to a fourth term and only the second Governor in New Hampshire history to be reelected for a fourth time.
Chris Sununu celebrated his win on election night at Pinz in Portsmouth a bowling and ax-throwing venue. He thanked his supporters after founding out he won.
“I’ve got to represent 1.4 million people, and the best part of my job is I get to be super selfish,” he said.
He told reporters that he received a very nice phone call from Tom Sherman conceding. In a written statement, Sherman reminded voters why he ran for office.
“My favorite part of this campaign was meeting incredible people across the state who are fighting every day to make New Hampshire a better place. I ran for governor to help small businesses that are trying to expand, young families that can’t find housing, and women like Lisa Akey, who had to testify from her hospital bed because of the abortion ban Sununu signed. While these aren’t the results that we hoped for, I’m so incredibly grateful for the support of Granite Staters who believe we need to put people above politics. I wish Governor Sununu well over the next two years, as well as everyone who was elected tonight to serve our great state.”
Chris Sununu was the commencement speaker at New England College in Spring of 2022, he also recently participated in the Live Free or Die debate in the Putnam theater.
