I survived a plane crash and had to find shelter at a lighthouse which ended up leading me to a dystopian city that is leagues under the sea. In that very same city I died and come back to life just to find and save my daughter. Finally, I was launched more than 15 thousand feet into a city in the sky only knowing to, “bring us the girl and wipe away the debt.”
You too can experience this by buying Bioshock: The Collection. It comes with all three Bioshock games and all of the downloadable content fully remastered.
For people that aren’t familiar with the series, they are first person shooter games. Players get to explore two breathtaking cities that are riddled with mysteries. They also get to use some unique powers that are known as Plasmids or Vigors. They have unique names like Insect Swarm, Devil’s Kiss, Possession and Ironsides.
Even though these games are old, with the first one coming out nine years ago, they stand their ground and are still amazing games. Sure, they aren’t as amazing looking as games that are coming out today, but that’s to be expected with older games. However, thanks to them being remastered the games look and play a lot better. The first game has the most noticeable improvement visually speaking.
New players get the joy of playing these games and experience some of the biggest plot twists in video game history.
People that have played the series before also get something new by getting this collection. There is now a director’s commentary for the first game. The game’s creative director, Ken Levine, and animation director Shawn Robertson talk about how Bioshock first started out and how they made it. It is an excellent way to learn more about the game and the world surrounding it. As a person that has played the games before I was excited to hear this commentary.
The best part about Bioshock and Bioshock 2 is that your decisions will affect the ending you get when it comes down to it. So the games can be replayed and still found enjoyable.
My only complaint about the collection is that the games aren’t all on the same disk. It comes with two discs with Bioshock and Bioshock 2 on the first disk and Bioshock Infinite on the other. This complaint is mostly due to my laziness to get up and have to switch discs and is nothing major that will affect a player’s enjoyment of the game.
Overall, I’d give this game an 8.5 out of ten. Bioshock: The Collection is a game that is worth buying. The graphics are decent, the story is unique and has replayability, as well as good gameplay.
