The New England college Pilgrims sports teams had an impressive day Saturday, April 2, as they had 5 home games, which were all wins.
Men’s Lacrosse:
Men’s lacrosse recorded a 10-8 win against Castleton. After falling down 2-0 in the first quarter, Sam Crary scored to get the Pilgrims on the board. Then about 40 seconds later Thomas Norton recorded a goal. About a minute later Crary scored again, and the Pilgrims had the momentum going into the 2nd quarter leading 3-2. The 2nd quarter brought goals from Lucas Ferraria, once again, Sam Crary, and TJ Nong to bring the score to 6-5 in favor of the Grims going into halftime. The 2nd half included two more goals from Lucas Ferraria and Thomas Norton to secure the win 10-8 against Castleton.
Softball:
Softball took two games from UMaine Farmington in a doubleheader. In game one, Emily Farrone was on the mound for the Pilgrims as she went seven innings allowing only one run and striking out six. The Pilgrims started off hot, with two runs in the first inning, as Lindsey Bayes scored the first run of the day on a Daelyn Ross single. Ross also came around to score in the first inning. In the third inning, Ross doubled to right center to bring in two more runs. Emily Gagne hit a single to left field in the fourth inning that drove in Emily Nelson. In the sixth inning, Kaitlyn Simpson hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Oliva Olson to cap off the Pilgrims scoring in game one as the Pilgrims won 6-1
In game two of the softball doubleheader, the Pilgrims offense exploded in the bottom of the second inning. Starting it off was Daelyn Ross with a solo homerun to center field. Olivia Olson hit a single to center field driving in two runs. Then Monica Andrade, with the bases loaded, hit a triple to right field driving in Emily Gagne, Jailen Dickens, and Olivia Olson. Andrade then came in to score on a single to right field by Destiny Helmedach to cap off the scoring in the Pilgrims seven run inning. Jailen Dickens would hit a two-run homerun in the third. In the fourth inning, Taylor Maher and Naomi Medrano each recorded an RBI double. Oliva Olson hit an RBI single to right field to cap off the Pilgrims scoring in game two, as they would go on to win 12-0. Naomi Medrano was on the mound for the Pilgrims through four innings without allowing a run and allowed just four hits. Olivia Olson came in for the fifth inning and got all three batters she faced out and struck out two.
Baseball:
Baseball took two games from Lesley in their home opener this past weekend. In game one, Alex Perez got the ball and went six and a third innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs, while striking out ten. Corey O’Day came in to close out the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh without allowing a hit. Lesley started the scoring, recording one run in the first, one in the fourth, and one in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, the Pilgrims bats came alive when Michael Ciccotelli hit a single to score Luca Giallongo for their first run of the day. Then J.D. Normand singled to score Ciccotelli and Brady Philibotte to tie it up at 3-3. Connor Morin then scored on a wild pitch. J.D. Normand scored on a balk. Brady Philibotte capped off the scoring for the Pilgrims with a solo home run to left field.
In game two, Shayne Audet was the starting pitcher for the Pilgrims and went five innings, only allowing two hits while striking out eight. Chandler Drew and Seth Balch each pitched an inning as well in relief. The scoring started when J.D. Normand was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Brady Philibotte. Harutaro Takahashi singled to center field to then score Michael Ciccotelli. The Pilgrims went on a roll to go up 6-0 after the first inning. In the second inning, Tyler Gendron hit a homerun down the left field line. In the fourth, Devin Parsons singled to center field to score Kyle Dobrie. Connor Morin hit a bases clearing double in the fourth inning as well to bring the score to 13-0. The Pilgrims would score a bunch in the fifth, with a Parsons single to center field to score Takahashi. Ryan Hughes hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Cooper Ribaudo. Johnny Cannavo singled to center field to score Parsons. Cooper Ribaudo singled to score Bryce Worth. In the sixth, the Pilgrims got one more as Johnny Cannavo reached first on an error, and it allowed Ryan Hughes to come around and score to bring the score to 20-4. Lesley scored one in the bottom of the seventh to bring the score to 20-5.
