Dayvon Daquan Bennett, also known professionally as “King Von,” was an american rapper and songwriter from Chicago, llinois. He was raised in Parkway Gardens, known by residents as “O-Block,” and grew up as childhood friends with rapper “Lil Durk” as well as fellow another Parkway resident “Cheif Keef.” King Von took on rapping, collaborating with Lil Durk on singles. Lil Durk eventually signed King Von to his entertainment label “OTF” (Only The Family) and Empire Distribution.
After his fellow rapper signed him to the label, King Von released his single “Crazy Story” on December 6th 2018 and it became his breakout single. In May 2019, “Crazy Story 2.0” featuring Lil Durk was released and reached number four on the “Bubbling Under Hot 100 Chart.” On September 13, 2019, a third rendition of the single called “Crazy Story 3.0” was released. On February 21, 2020, Von released “Took Her To The O,” which went on to become one of his most popular songs. In September of 2020, Von’s song “How It Go” was released. All of his storytelling was vivid depictions of King Von’s legal troubles and life of crime. King Von was a young man turning his life around for the better, a person who was connected to crime in his city, yet becoming a great and successful artist in the music industry.
King Von passed away on November 6, 2020 after being involved in a altercation at a nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia. The dispute quickly resulted in a shootout, and Von was transported to the hospital in critical condition and passed away later that day.
King Von was an upcoming artist with unique storytelling talents, and was loved across the country for his style in his music. He mastered the art of expressing his pain and rage for troubled youth, who faced the same situations he did. King Von lived a life of crime, but he turned it around by making music, showing people there is a better way in life than the one he lived. His last album, “Welcome to O’Block,” was released on October 30, 2020, after the success of debut album “Levon James.”
King Von was a loved son of Chicago, a loving father, a man who was giving back to his community, and showing his talent to the world. He had so much potential in his heart, and we must carry on his legacy. We can keep moving forward living in his name, staying motivated to be better than the person we were yesterday.
