Maggie Goodlander came to New England Colleges’ Simon Center for a town hall meeting on Oct. 22.
Goodlander is the Democratic nominee for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District.
Goodlander believes that this is the most important election in United States history. She said she is running for three reasons.
“If I had to distill what brings me to this race and what I hear every day on the campaign trail into three words, it would be democracy fairness, and freedom,” Goodlander said. “I believe deeply that we need people who respect our constitution and want to fight for it.”
Goodlander said corporate monopolies are driving up the costs in America.
“One of the drivers of high costs in this country are corporate monopolies who are jacking up prices across the board,” Goodlander said.
“Whether it’s the cost of prescription drugs or the challenges family farmers are facing all across New Hampshire.”
Goodlander said healthcare is a human right. She also wants rehab centers and mental health centers to be included in basic healthcare coverage.
“Mental healthcare is healthcare, and it should be accessible to all, and affordable to all,” Goodlander said. “Mental health care and substance abuse treatment; this is health care.”
In this election, college students voting has been promoted a lot. Goodlander explained the significance of college students voting.
“My message is really simple, your vote matters. It matters deeply,” Goodlander said. “Here in New Hampshire, your vote makes a difference.”
The election for the New Hampshire 2nd Congressional District will take place on Nov. 5.
