Santiago Sanchez was named NEC’s male Pilgrim of the month for September.
Sanchez, a sophomore midfielder on the men’s soccer team from Guatemala City, had a very successful September, scoring five goals through eight games.
“I feel happy, first for me, obviously, and then for the team, who have the pilgrim of the month. And then it means to me that we’ve been working hard as a team. And then also feel happy because I’m making my parents proud.”
Sanchez attributes his improvements this season to the work he put in during the offseason.
“I worked on my conditioning during the spring, and also maybe being stronger and having more confidence on the ball,” he said.
It has been a season full of ups and downs for the men’s soccer team, but they have been persistent winning 4, losing 7, and tying 6 games.
“It’s been hard. It hasn’t been easy because we don’t have the results we wanted, but we are still working hard every game, even if we don’t have the results we want, we get out the next game or the next practice trying to improve.”
