Saturday kicked off the start of the field hockey season. The Pilgrims played against the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers for the first official game. The team played steadily the whole game ending with a win of 6-1. Not only was this the first game of the season, but it was also the first game on the Pilgrims newly done turf. The players and the coach like the new turf so far.

“It was an adjustment for sure, but we really like it. It is nice and smooth,” said Sophomore Forward Adelaide Kelly.

NEC has been waiting a while for this new turf, so it is a huge milestone for the field hockey team.

“I feel great about the turf, I mean it was a long time coming. These athletes that go to NEC deserve this type of surface to play on,” said Coach Carly Sweeney.

The team has high hopes for the season.

“I think it’s going to go well,” said Captain Drea Chin. “You want your team to do so well, and I believe we will […] I think the team has such good attitude, and we’re just learning something every day,” she said.

One ultra fan said this season is looking promising. “It’s trending in a positive direction,” said Tucker Stenger.

The Pilgrims beat Delaware Valley University 2-0 on Sunday and continued their winning streak by topping Clark University 3-1. The next game is September 10 at Fitchburg State College.
