NEC held a blood drive with The Red Cross on Wednesday Nov. 8, and collected donations from 30 people.

The donors included two power red donors, according to Allie Birchmeier, the organizer. A power red donor gives nearly twice the amount of red blood cells and can help more patients.

There were nine others who showed up to donate, but were deferred due to reasons like low blood pressure, sickness, low iron, and other reasons.

“This is incredibly common at blood drives and we always encourage folks to register for the next one to try again,” Birchmeier said in an email to The NewEnglander.

The next campus blood drive is Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024.
