As the school year closes, elections begin to ramp-up. New England College has an involved student senate and a student senate president. As one of the highest positions for students to hold in this college, picking a student senate president can be very important.
On Wednesday, April 6, the school hosted a debate with the two student presidential candidates—Lily Geber and Tyler Baker—on the Manchester campus.
“I think it went really well,” said Baker. “Lily and I brought forward some really great ideas.”
“I was true to myself,” said Geber. “That’s all I can really do.”
The debate was monitored by current senate president, Kayla Padilla. The debate started with predetermined questions based around the candidate’s goals for the school. It was then followed by questions from the crowd.
“I felt confident in my answers,” Geber said. “I know the issues affecting students, so I came prepared.”
Both candidates made their case.
Geber said she knows how to get things done. When there is a problem on campus, I will make sure it gets taken care of.
Baker agrees, being president is all about action. He doesn’t want to be a president that makes empty promises. He wants to build the trust of the students here at NEC.
One more debate is set to be held Wednesday, April 13, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Henniker campus. Shortly after, voting will begin on Blackboard. Voting will go all the way until April 18.
