The New England College Pilgrims were matched up with the Mariners of Mitchell College this past Saturday Feb. 5 at NEC in Henniker, N.H.. The Pilgrims got off to a hot start, led by Calvin Cheek and Jamal Allen. Cheek and Allen continued this momentum late into the first half to make the score 60-41 at halftime.
With ten minutes left in the second half, the Pilgrims started gaining momentum again and went on another run. It started off with another Jamal Allen three and was followed by a Kyle Inglis three to bring the score to 91-64. The Pilgrims did not let up the rest of the game and went on to win 109-87 in an important conference game.
“We had to set the tone, we started off the season slow so being able to have a game like Saturday was big for us,” said Errol Crawford, a senior on the team. “We got a sense of urgency back that I feel like we’ve been missing.”
Jamal Allen was on fire all game with 42 points, going 7-11 from three point range, hitting one shot from nearly half-court late in the second half. Calvin Cheek recorded a triple-double with 23 points, 10 assists, and 11 steals, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Kyle Inglis had 12 points off the bench, hitting two shots from three point range. Kareem Octavian had 10 points while also grabbing 3 rebounds, as well as getting 2 assists and 2 steals.
The Pilgrims next game is February 9th, at Lesley College.
