Coming off a shortened 31 game schedule in 2021, the New England College baseball team will look to improve upon the 16-15 record they had last season. With COVID-19 impacting the 2020 season, there was opportunity for athletes to come back and compete for a fifth and even sixth year. The roster for 2022 has a plethora of experience, with some players even playing on the 2019 team, which made it to the Super Regionals. This team strives to not only improve on last season, but to accomplish more than 2019.
“The drive, attitude and confidence are three things that stand out when I think about similarities between this year’s squad and that 2019 team,” said Connor Morin, a fifth year senior that played on the 2019 squad.
Morin was just a sophomore in 2019. Now, he is a captain and a huge mentor to the younger players on the team. Morin says the comparison to the 2019 team is exciting for this year’s squad. It gives the team drive to be even better than they were before.
Another drive for this roster is not being ranked for Division III colleges.
“It’s time to prove a lot of people wrong this season,” said Stephen Dunham, a sophomore on the team. “We’re going to work harder than ever.”
The New England College baseball team opens their season on Feb. 26 at Anna Maria College.
