On November 18, New England College held the first event of the Sophomore Experience—Bonfire & Bites. Sophomores who attended the event signed their class banner and the members of the NEC community enjoyed the fire and some tasty treats.

“The class of 2024, didn’t get a convocation or other events due to COVID. We wanted to make this a special event for them,” said Stan Horton, the Director of Student Conduct.

The sophomore experience will continue throughout the coming years, as it is an important year for students, in all different aspects.

“If you look at a different institutions, they look at the second year for students being such an important year for students to decide on majors, to think about what there next step is going to be, and also looking at careers and internships,” said Horton

The turnout of this event was great. Students came in waves and sat around the fire talking to peers, eating baked goods and enjoying cider.

“The incoming classes will sign a banner their sophomore year essentially saying, ‘Yep we’re here and we’re excited to be here’,” said Horton.
