Artist DuBose, formally known as Aboogie With da Hoodie, was born and raised in The Bronx, New York. Before the fame, Artist began writing some of his first rhymes when he was just 13 years old. He recorded a first studio-made track called “Temporary” in December of 2014.
After getting his career started, he released tracks in 2016 such as “Timeless,” “Jungle,” and” My shit.” In 2017 he debuted “Drowning” featuring Kodak Black, one of the top rap songs of the year. In September of 2017, Aboogie put out his first album, “The Bigger Artist,” it contained 15 songs of which 5 were featured with one other artist and 3 other songs had multiple artists.
Exactly 1 year after dropping “The Bigger Artist,” Aboogie dropped his sophomore album, “Hoodie SZN,” which stands at NO. 1 in the US and NO. 2 on the top Billboard 200.
Hoodie SZN was released on December 21st, 2018 and contained 20 songs with 10 including features. Some of the songs on this album were better than others because they had a valuable meaning behind them.
In the intro track “Voices in My Head” there is a blueprint of Aboogie questionably comparing himself to both Malcolm X and Michael Jackson. He says his lyrics in his softest and threat-filled voice. Those same vocals carried over to “I Did It,” in which ABoogie confesses to his cheating and the irrational blaming on his lack of trust in women, which is borderline insane. “4 Min Convo” is ABoogie’s form of being engaged and melodramatic. He used a piano for the beat which was a balance of both the loving and ruthless savage aspects of his personality. The track has no hooks and is just a long verse of ABoogie venting. Later in the song he thanks Drake for his record “Jaded” which inspired Boogie and his views on relationships.
Leading into his next song on the album “Love, Drugs and Sex,” he lets everyone know that he doesn’t want the responsibility of being in a relationship and that all he just wants to do is have sex and do drugs specifically drugs such as Adderall and Percocets.
“Savage” was written about girls that have dated the rapper. Every girl that ABoogie has dated left him thinking whether or not she was the right one or not, until he found out that she was a savage. The last song, “Billie Jean,” is a dedication to Michael Jackson.
Hoodie SZN does not offer us any new realizations about the rapper ABoogie. The 23-year-old Bronx rapper hardly breaks from his moody, tough-talking, heartache sing-rap formula which is how he expresses himself through his writing.
